The Health Community at COP27

Sharm El-Sheikh, Egypt

COP27 takes place in Sharm El-Sheikh, Egypt, from Sunday 6th November until Friday 18th November 2022.

It has been referred to as the “Africa COP”, and the Egyptian Presidency of COP27 will likely be prioritising a focus on adaptation, a pressing climate issue across the African region. It is also being framed as the “implementation COP”, calling on governments to demonstrate concrete progress on commitments made in previous years.

Health is not included on the official agenda of COP27, but the health community has been working hard to ensure that the links between health and climate change are increasingly recognised by decision makers. This includes demonstrating the links between health and key negotiation items, and leveraging side events to build bridges and exchange messaging with the wider climate community.
