Planet Mitigation is a national campaign organized by Standing Committee on Human Rights and Peace (SCORP) under the Center for Indonesian Medical Students’ Activities (CIMSA) to strengthen disaster resilience by promoting climate mitigation and environmental sustainability. Developed from a nationwide pre-campaign assessment, the initiative identified key gaps in public knowledge and climate-friendly practices, enabling evidence-based educational interventions tailored to community needs. The initiative combined online and offline approaches through educational social media campaigns, interactive digital engagement, Local Roadshows across 11 Local Committees, and international collaborations with IFMSA Japan and AMSA Singapore. Its flagship event, Planet Mitigation Day, brought together government institutions, United Nations agencies, environmental organizations, healthcare professionals, and young people through multidisciplinary discussions, eco-friendly workshops, and interactive exhibitions. The campaign also translated awareness into tangible environmental action through the Trees for Tomorrow initiative in collaboration with LindungiHutan, resulting in the planting of 332.6 mangrove trees in Mangunharjo Beach, Semarang. By integrating education, multisectoral collaboration, community participation, and environmental action, the initiative empowered medical students and the public to become active contributors to disaster risk reduction while promoting long-term climate resilience in Indonesia.
The initiative generated meaningful impact by integrating evidence-based education, multisectoral collaboration, and community participation. A pre-campaign assessment involving 264 respondents identified gaps in public knowledge regarding climate mitigation and disaster risk reduction, enabling SCORP CIMSA to design targeted educational interventions. Through a nationwide social media campaign and Local Roadshows implemented across 11 cities, the initiative expanded climate and health education to diverse communities while empowering local medical students to become climate advocates. The campaign collaborated with key stakeholders, including government institutions, United Nations agencies, environmental organizations, and international medical student organizations, strengthening cross-sectoral partnerships for climate resilience. Its flagship event, Planet Mitigation Day, fostered dialogue between policymakers, environmental experts, healthcare professionals, medical students, and the public, while the Trees for Tomorrowinitiative resulted in the planting of 333 mangrove trees in Mangunharjo Beach, Semarang. Overall, the campaign generated over 293,000 social media impressions, achieved 95.5% participant satisfaction, and 90% of participants reported improved knowledge regarding climate mitigation and disaster risk reduction. Importantly, the Local Roadshow model provides a scalable blueprint that can be replicated by other National Member Organizations to localize climate and health education while maintaining a unified national framework, contributing to broader climate resilience efforts at both national and global levels.
