“The ECOMIND Certificate is a set of 3x90min workshops that give young climate leaders the tools to regulate stress, process climate emotions, support each other & sustain long-term impact. Our initiative addresses the impacts of the climate crisis on the mental health of young aussies. We are seeing increasing rates of burnout, climate-distress and disengagement from the movement all together. If we want to create a sustainable planet, we need a resilient next generation of leaders who can not only adapt to the changing climate but who have the skills to stay in this work for the long haul, looking after their mental health, their community and the planet, sustainably.
Since being launched in June this year, the ECOMIND Certificate has equipped over 150 young people with the skills to look after themselves, each other and the planet, sustainably. Upon completion, 100% of participants reported believing that looking after their wellbeing is an essential part of climate action, 93% of participants felt more connected to others in the climate movement and 100% of participants felt motivated to take action, sustainably. An evaluation conducted by Orygen also demonstrated that all 6 areas of wellbeing that we target through the certificate not only showed statistically significant improvements but large effect sizes, demonstrating that the changes occurring due to chance was highly improbable. We have delivered the program with Australian National University, University of Newcastle, Project Planet and have a booking scheduled with UNICEF. ”
