Grupo de Trabajo OMS-Sociedad Civil para la Acción sobre el Cambio Climático y la Salud

El Grupo de Trabajo de la OMS y la Sociedad Civil para la Acción sobre el Cambio Climático y la Salud tiene como objetivo fomentar una voz sanitaria fuerte y sostenida, informando la toma de decisiones sobre el cambio climático a nivel nacional e internacional e impulsando acciones urgentes sobre el cambio climático.

Los miembros del grupo de trabajo trabajan individualmente y en colaboración para aumentar la participación del sector de la salud en la mitigación y adaptación al cambio climático. A través del Grupo de Trabajo y sus tres subcomités, abordan el cambio climático a través de la reforma de los sistemas de atención médica, la investigación, la educación entre pares, la promoción, la respuesta a emergencias y el desarrollo de políticas. Establecido en 2019 por el Director General de la OMS, Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus, el grupo está copresidido por el Subdirector General de la OMS para Poblaciones más Saludables y el Director Ejecutivo de la Alianza Mundial para el Clima y la Salud.

 

Aspectos destacados del grupo de trabajo

El Subcomité de Creación de Capacidades publicó una carta abierta a las partes interesadas en la educación sanitaria pidiendo a las universidades y otras instituciones académicas que fortalezcan la educación sobre el cambio climático para todos los profesionales de la salud.

 

El Grupo de Trabajo desempeñó un papel clave en la redacción y difusión de la carta de Receta para un Clima Saludable, que fue firmada por más de 600 organizaciones que representan a 46 millones de trabajadores de la salud. Destacó el cambio climático como una emergencia sanitaria y pidió una acción climática urgente, ambiciosa y equitativa.

El Subcomité de Investigación examinó las investigaciones sobre clima y salud publicadas en los últimos 10 años y publicó ‘Climate change and health research: current trends, gaps and outlooks for the future’ como actualización del documento sobre prioridades de investigación de 2009 de la OMS.​

El Grupo de Trabajo organizó consultas regionales en cada una de las seis regiones de la OMS, invitando a profesionales de la salud que abordan las causas y los impactos del cambio climático, a conectarse con otros en su campo y región, y a contribuir al informe especial de la OMS a la CMNUCC: La Salud.
