Where and when?

COP28 will take place between Thursday 30 Nov 2023 – Tuesday, 12 Dec 2023, in Dubai, United Arab Emirates (UAE).

  • The formal negotiations will take place in The Blue Zone, a site managed by the UNFCCC, and open to accredited party and observer delegates including the GCHA.
  • The Green Zone is a space managed by the COP28 UAE Presidency. It offers a platform to non-accredited delegates to engage in climate action (including youth groups, civil society, NGOs, the private sector, and indigenous groups).
  • See here for the COP28 Thematic Program.
  • Further health information for delegates also available at the WMO-WHO Health page.

What is Health Day?

On 3 December, Health Day (taking place in the Blue Zone) will bring together a full day of programming examining the many dimensions of health and climate. Events and dialogues will focus on unpacking political and financial commitments, health responses to climate change in the context of G20 countries, adaptation and resilience as a key response for ensuring healthy outcomes, and many more. To explore Health Day events see the WMO-WHO events page.

Health Day will also include the first ever COP Ministerial meeting on climate and health, bringing together Ministers of health, environment, finance and other key sectors.

The Ministerial is hosted by COP28 Presidency, the World Health Organization and the UAE Ministry of Health and Prevention, and is being supported by a group of countries, including Brazil, the United States, the United Kingdom, Germany, the Netherlands, Egypt, Kenya, Sierra Leone, India, and Fiji. Over 40 countries have already confirmed that a high level representative from the Ministry of Health will participate in Health Day.

A COP28 Declaration on Climate and Health will be formally adopted during the Ministerial on.Health Day
