Public support and understanding of the health impacts of the climate crisis is crucial to accelerating climate action and protecting health. Many of the solutions to the climate crisis are also health solutions, with major benefits for our health and wellbeing.

We work with partners and our members to increase public awareness and understanding of the links between the climate crisis and human health and of the importance of robust and rapid climate action. See our ongoing and recent public engagement and information work below.

THE CLIMATE AND US

The Climate and Us is a 2023 series of short branded films presented by the Global Climate and Health Alliance and produced by BBC StoryWorks Commercial Productions. The series takes viewers on a cinematic journey across the world to explore the many ways in which a changing climate is impacting people’s health and wellbeing across the globe. On the BBC.com alone the series website page received over 2.6 million page views. The series is divided into 3 chapters which address the following questions:

  • Protecting Resources: The climate crisis is threatening the resources we depend on for our daily lives – how can we protect our most essential needs?
  • Extreme Events: Wildfires, floods and heatwaves are driving new and old health problems. Can communities adapt?
  • Resilient Health: Our health care systems are already struggling to cope with a changing climate. Can we create health systems fit for the future?

Translating complex information into publicly accessible language

The links between the climate crisis and health are complex and can be challenging to communicate and understand. GCHA has produced several videos in recent years that help break down these issues and key terminology into easily accessible and understandable language.

#ClimatePrescription: “Our handwriting may be bad, but our message is clear”

This 2022 2 minute short video features testimonies and calls to action from 25 health workers from around the world, who have borne witness to climate-related health impacts on their patients. The video’s conclusion takes the form of medical prescription as a direct call to world leaders to accept climate action as a cure to the climate crisis.

Knock Out Methane

In 2023 GCHA produced a 2 minute short video in 6 languages to increase public awareness of Methane- a short-lived, powerful greenhouse gas, that is accelerating global warming and contaminating the air, water, and soil that humans depend on. This video is part of a wider and ongoing GCHA initiative on the correlation between methane emissions and public health.
